Hello friends, welcome back! What a crazy busy time of year for everyone, am I right?! I truly do appreciate you taking the time out of your busy lives to visit us here, thank you! xo We’ve really enjoyed the Year of Feasting series, Dannyelle (our gracious hostess) over at Life is a Party is the queen of party planning, and her tablescaping is next level! Thank you Dannyelle for hosting such a fun series, it’s been a blast. Some of our past feasting fun.

I think this New Year’s Eve feast is my favourite so far though. We’ve been out to the all night parties, it’s so much fun – it’s almost like, been there done that atmosphere around here though! Bud and I are really morphing into homebodies lately – haha. But, being a homebody does not mean it has to be anything less than magical and very special, we decided that we wanted a romantic evening in with some special friends. There is just something magical about New Year’s Eve isn’t there? A glance back at the year that has just flown by (at least that’s the case here) a feeling of excitement in the air, all the new possibilities and the promise of new beginnings, not to mention a renewed energy for exploring all of the potential that surrounds each of us!  I LOVE this time of year and the wonderful feelings that comes with it! I’m a huge sap though, haha. And that is why I’ve designed this New Year’s Eve feast to be a romantic evening in – with a special focus on, “my wish for you”.

I had such fun planning this tablescape, making this table romantic and elegant was easy with my stunning new, Hune Flatware Set – Titanium Matt Black from Amara!  The quality of this flatware is beyond luxurious, Bud has commented on the quality many times (not something he usually does). Thank you, Amara for providing such a generous and stunning gift for our romantic New Year’s Eve.

While planning this evening my concept was to create a winter wonderland, after all it’s very much still winter on New Year’s Eve. My inspiration came from the gorgeous images I see on Instagram, the photos that drones capture of snowy forests from above, I’m always in awe of those images over and over.

That magical wintery forest is what inspired this simple (and mini) bottle brush forest and is more winter specific, than New Year’s Eve specific really. I just love how our table could be used for both Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

A Romantic New Year's Eve - My Wish For You | Vinyet EtcI also wanted to focus on intention… Intention for the coming year, pertaining to our relationships. I found some beautiful gold organza bags and filled them with crinkle paper and a tag for our guests and ourselves to write a love note or a note of intention or even a wish for their significant other for the coming year, once our messages are written the love notes were tied onto the stem of our wine glasses to be read at midnight – after the kiss of course.

Candle light and twinkle lights make everything more romantic, don’t you think?

Another thing I was inspired by this year and it seems to be a little bit of a trend actually, the adorable cupcake stands and I’m seeing them everywhere! SUCH a cute idea! In keeping with our simplification theme of our Christmas decor I decided to make my own version of a cupcake stand. I used cute little bottles I found at the dollar store then placed the tiniest of the bottle brush trees inside, sprinkled with some buffalo snow and then I topped that off with my vintage galvanized tart tins… I found it needed a little New Year’s Eve sparkle so I very simply tied some suede cording around the top of the bottle and strung a sparkly gold snow flake on each “cupcake stand”.  I really like how they turned out.

Another very simple way I added to the snowy themed evening was to tie thin white ribbon off of our light fixture and let it drape onto and just above our “forest”, I hot glued more of the sparkled snowflakes (I had in my Christmas stash) to some of the ribbons… it looks like a slow lazy snow fall. I love making a low centerpiece so we can see each other while dining, the ribbon adds a bit of height and movement, but we can all still see each other.

New Year’s Eve wouldn’t be complete without some glitz… something a little opulent, or something that at the very least looks that way.  I made these DIY napkin rings with a pretty little necklace I found while out thrifting. I just loved the colour of the gold and the sparkle of the “gems”. I simply cut the jewelry apart and strung the pieces (3 for each setting) on some organza ribbon and added a tassel to the center piece. I laid the smaller ribbon on top of a larger organza piece and tied the two together onto the cloth napkins, this looks very rich and feels special, while it is specially made it was actually very inexpensive.

I loved laying the napkins on top of my Nan’s gold wedding dishes (my Poppy gave those to her on their wedding night) and they just feel romantic along with the delicate scalloped ivory plates – I love this whole layered look actually, it helps to add the feeling that something special is happening. I used our regular everyday black dishes on top of forest green chargers… why do they make chargers so shiny, you can actually see them from the moon? Seriously! I sprayed these down with my trusty matt spray, no food comes into contact with the chargers, so I feel very safe (and strangely satisfied) spraying the daylights out of them. 😉 Is it just me?

One of my favourite “tricks” for this specific tablescape is the green sparkling water bottles. When I set the table I just put them on the table with the labels on them… even though they are a brand name water it still looked tacky, IMHO. I took the bottles off of the table and soaked the labels off. It was a happy accident really, the sun glinting in through our window reflected that beautiful forest green on the table, I loved that effect.

The Christmas garland of dried oranges and grapefruit added such a pop of colour, I simply adore how this old fashioned garland looks.

I really hope you enjoyed our simple and romantic New Year’s setting… this is our “speed” (as Bud would say) and we wouldn’t have it any other way, simplifying is so empowering.

Our Girl, Dodi thought she should be included in the festivities… not one to be left out usually. haha I couldn’t resist including her here too!

Everything about this is wonderful, my friend, beginning with your focus on intention. Your DIY cupcake stands are so creative and lovely. Also love the forest inspiration that led to the bottle brush tree forest! The new flatware is incredible. The citrus garland is a perfect natural touch. The napkin rings are gorgeous and glam. I hope that you and Bud and the kids (and by that I mean Mike and Dodi, haha) have a fabulous New Year’s Eve and a beautiful 2018! xo Jo

What I always love about your arrangements is the warmth and comfort. It must make your guests feel so special and welcome, and comfortable. Your Nan’s dishes as well as the story of your grandpa giving them to her on their wedding night is pure romance. Love this and you! xo
