A Thanksgiving Picnic and a Vintage Truck

Thanksgiving Picnic AND a Vintage Truck | Vinyet Etc.
Hello friends, welcome! I’m finding it hard to believe that it’s that time of year again already… Canadian Thanksgiving is actually here (this weekend)!!! Today myself and some awesome Canadian blogging friends wanted to share some inspiration and show you some Thanksgiving tablescapes – Canadian style!  Thank you Dannyelle from Life is a Party for hosting this fun Year of Feasting series! xo

Canadian Thanksgiving is on October 9th this year and we are hosting some of our family this coming weekend… before the hustle and bustle and the TONNES of fun actually happens, Bud and I wanted a quiet celebration. We decided to have a romantic Thanksgiving picnic, on our own, with our vintage truck and we’re taking you along (virtually).

First let me tell you a bit about this truck… this is a 1966 Chevrolet C20 – farm/work truck. We bought it to restore (along with our vintage trailer – stay tuned for that – one day – hopefully…) and use it primarily as a Vin’yet truck. Basically use it to go vintage picking, delivering client builds, lugging goods for a pop up shop here and there and for exploring the country roads like we love to do. These are the plans we have… one day this will all happen – fingers are tightly crossed. In the mean time we decided that taking it on a little picnic (even if it was just by our very own barn on our property) was a nice way to get into the Thanksgiving mood and spend some time in the truck – daydreaming and planning our future. Sigh.

Even though the truck needs work (don’t we all) I thought it would be the perfect place to feast!
A lovely setting on a lovely day!

Delicious food and better company, I could not wish for more.
I decided that to have a Thanksgiving picnic didn’t necessarily mean I had to lug a turkey around the yard and bring it to the truck – HAHA. I thought a charcuterie style meal would be the best of both worlds – cold turkey, smoked ham, cranberry goodness -YUM. You can get as complicated or as simple as you’d like really. We, okay I tend to lean heavily on the cheese and carbs (downfall) and lots of things to pick at, nuts, dried cranberries, dried figs, lots of fruits and vegetables – it goes on and on – the yummy combo is literally endless.

It really was an interesting day though, some rain, massive black clouds and winds were threatening our picnic… but all of that nasty weather ended up staying away – the beautiful sun came out and we had a spectacular picnic, thank goodness!

We packed a picnic basket, gathered our charcuterie feast and set our picnic out on the tailgate like we would have on a table, actually a little more causally than a table setting and kind of buffet style – you get the idea.  We simply spread a blanket on the grass and enjoyed the peaceful feast – of course there was WAY too much food, I swear I always make too much – like I have a fear of running out of food (the more I blog the more I realize I need counseling – hahaha)!  I’m not going to ramble on and on, I think the photos will tell the story! xo

Really it doesn’t matter the setting when you are surrounded by those you love… rust and needed repairs made zero difference to us…

I don’t even know what to say about this! But let me try. Haha. This is the sweetest Thanksgiving idea I have ever seen. I’m in love with it! Can you loan out the truck next year? And maybe your property too? (Because I’m not sure how this spread will look on my suburban street.) Your food looks delicious and it’s all so beautifully laid out. I want to munch on pickles and chips and fruit now. 😉 Gratitude for the simple things and for our daydreams. That is such a lovely, poignant line. Just the perfect one to capture the feeling of Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Bud and your family!

Oh my goodness! Everything looks sooo delicious and beautifully presented. I love how creative you got with your presentation. That charcuterie looks heavenly, too. And for what it’s worth: I hear you on the carbs/cheese thing… 😉

Oh my goodness! This is quite the spread (insert drooling emoji). Now that the weather’s cooled and it’s starting to feel more like fall, I’m appreciating these opportunities and moments outdoors even more. This all looks so beautiful and perfectly captures what Thanksgiving is about: appreciating all the little things in our lives.
