Canadian Christmas home tours - VinYet Etc

Hello and welcome to our cozy Christmas home tour!

I had so much fun with my blogging buddies for the Canadian Fall home tour this year I decided to join in again for the Christmas tour and I must admit I am beyond excited to see all of the Canadian Christmas goodness! To say that these ladies are talented is a MASSIVE understatement, I glean so much inspiration from these beautiful souls… you absolutely have to explore their tours too… all week long, I pinky swear promise you will be wowed… so much inspiration and so much Christmas home decor goodness! Yay!!!

I’d like to say a great BIG thank you to our Hostess, Christina from The DIY Mommy – she is such a giving and kind person, her sure to be gorgeous home tour is on Thursday and I’m so excited to see what beauty she’s whipped up this year. Seriously you have to pop back and see all of the holiday magic from all of my blogging friends – the entire lineup is at the end of this post.

This guy sure does cozy right… I posted this one on Instagram earlier this week, I would LOVE it if you joined me there for some behind the scenes sneak peeks.

VinYet Etc. A Cozy Christmas

This year we decided to go cozy… and simple. I wanted white fur (faux of course) and birch… so lots of white with tons of cozy thrown in for good measure. We live on the outskirts of Kingston Ontario, on a large chunk of land, Bud (AKA Mr.) likes to say, “our cabin in the woods”… so that’s what we are going for this Christmas season, a cabin in the woods…

I’d also like to admit right now… so you know exactly what you are in for with this post, I’m a huge kid at heart. Christmas every single year for me brings me right back to all of the same kind of feelings I had as a little girl, laying in bed on Christmas Eve listening so hard to hear the clatter that Santa and his reindeer made upon arrival…  snooping and peeking and wondering what surprises I would find under the tree on Christmas morning. I may have given up laying in bed listening for Santa (spoiler alert) whomp whomp no Santa, BUT I still have trouble falling asleep and I am always up and out of bed first, every year… even before the small kiddos. I’m sure this is completely annoying to those who actually want to sleep in, but I just can’t help it! Now instead of wondering what Santa has brought for me, I am so anxious to see the excitement in my family’s eyes when they open the perfect, for them gifts that are under our Christmas tree.

Entrance

Okay so now you know what a loonie toons I am about the magic of Christmas, come on in I’ll give you a little tour. This entrance has been a challenge for me, the first impression into our home was SO dark and awkward.

Lots of nagging… no no, lots of scheming, okay no that’s not right either, with lots of actual begging I was finally able to convince Bud to help me paint the railings and risers on this extremely dark and ORANGE oak staircase. This feature of our entrance sucked all of the light out of this already dark space. I absolutely LOVE the change some simple white paint has made, it’s brightened the whole house! Not an exaggeration, you can see this staircase from most of the rooms on our main level and boys oh boys what an impact! I’m so pleased! Just ignore the things left to do… baseboard and green tile to name a few. Our DIY list is very long, baby steps.

My favourite thing this season is the faux birch bark wreath on our front door (I’ll let you in on a little secret, that’s birch paper – thank you HomeSense), I used this for my Fall porch too but I didn’t take any photos of it… so that means it stays for Christmas too! Yay!

Like I mentioned above we decided to go simple and cozy… and of course rustic.

Living room

Our favourite feature in this room is the fireplace… we often say we aren’t sure how we ever lived without it, it’s so amazing. This feature has had some changes too since we’ve moved in, you can check out how this mantel looked before here. There will be more changes to come, but for now it’s perfectly us, simple, cozy and hot… haha, no no that’s a joke we’re not simple! 😉 I kid, I kid!

Canadian Christmas home tours - VinYet Etc

Our living room is in desperate need of a new living room set.. this poor tired set is; geeze 20 years old now and a complete veg and watch TV monster. But on a positive note, the look of this furniture is a fantastic excuse to buy lots of pillows (I’m a total sucker for cute pillows) and cozy beautiful throws,  right?

Canadian Christmas home tours - VinYet Etc

This warehouse industrial cart is still my favourite thing ever, Bud refinished one of our thrifting finds as a surprise for me one Christmas, he did an amazing job!

Canadian Christmas home tours - VinYet Etc

I made some changes to this corner after my original photo shoot… I prefer this version, a simpler pillow with twinkle lights in the industrial basket attached to our blanket ladder. So cozy!

I adore using our vintage scales in unusual ways… they aren’t perfect, but thankfully we both love the charm of them.

Favourite Christmas vignettes

Thank you sooo much for stopping in for a visit, hope I didn’t scare you too much with my (some say over the top) Christmas spirit? 😉 Here are some of my favourite vignettes this season… I hope you enjoy.

My Mom’s vintage glass deer, he is so precious to me… I think Mom would love how I display him at Christmas.

Pears on the island… simple and pretty.

I love using natural elements for Christmas wrap, it adds such a special touch to those thoughtful gifts… don’t you think?

The kitchen windowsill our sleepy cat was having such an amazing nap on.

Candles and bottle brush trees, what’s not to love?

CanBlogTourChristmas2016-VinYetEtc-13.jpg

One of our very first ornaments and a favourite… 1988. (YIKES that’s so many years ago)

Canadian Christmas home tours - VinYet Etc

A new ornament for this year (I try to buy one every year), this little gold frame opens and you can add anything you’d like, I added some holly leaves and tied some beautiful red velvet ribbon to it, simple and pretty.

I seem to have a thing for hanging a vintage sieve on my walls… I changed this one from fall decor to a winter look by removing the dried peonies from the antlers and adding tiny pinecones, I then sprinkled the pinecones with gold glitter and added some greenery and some lightly coloured feathers… simple and rustic and donezo! I literally could keep posting photos… I know I took way too many, but I have to stop myself now and hope to God you’re still awake?! haha, thanks so much for stopping in for our tour and thank you for indulging my Christmas madness spirit! xo

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone, I hope all of your heart’s desires come to fruition. Peace, love and warm fuzzy feelings from Bud and I, to you and yours! xo
