Cozy Living April – Shop your own home

Happy April friends! I wish I could say our Spring is here… but it’s not, not quite yet. BUT, April’s cozy living is back and that’s something to celebrate, am I right?! This is our 4th month into our cozy living series hosted by my lovely friend, Jennifer from Town & Country Living and I must admit I look forward to this post every month! Shopping your home and Hygge

Today we’re going to talk about shopping your own home. I’m sure you’ve heard that term before? What does that mean exactly? Let me back up a little, I love to partake in a bit of retail therapy every now and then and I simply adore vintage hunting! But, seriously how much stuff can you actually lug home before there is no longer room for the people that actually live there? I’m totally guilty of buying because I like something, bringing it home and tucking it away to “use” later! Well later sometimes never comes around and I’ve actually found myself dusting things off that I’ve NEVER used, to donate! YIKES! That seems so wasteful and not very Hygge at all.

I decided to challenge myself and dig into my donate pile and do something with whatever it was that intrigued me – I dug out this bread warmer I lugged home way back in the 90’s! We won’t address the fact that I seem to hang on to things for way too long in this post, maybe I’ll save that for another day.  Back to this bread warmer, in theory this gets put into the oven for about 10 minutes at 350F, then you put it in a basket with your breads and that keeps it all warm. Sounds delish, right? I NEVER used it the way it was intended even when it was brand new, it used to hang on my wall many many moons ago. The image above shows my horrible attempt at “antiquing” it with black paint, maybe in 2000, don’t ask – it was a DIY fail… haha. Anyways it was tucked away and has been moved from storage shelf to storage shelf and then finally demoted to the “donate” box.

I do love the image & graphic on this little bread warmer – but am no longer a huge fan of terracotta, I decided to paint this little cutie with my favourite paint, fusion mineral paint – paint from my existing stash – colour Casement.  I am very pleased with how it turned out and adding the neutral jute bakers twine just adds to it’s farmhouse charm in my opinion and brings this decor up to date. I love the shape of this little bread warmer, great to hang on a wall or tuck it into a cozy vignette.

I absolutely love creating cozy vignettes – it makes me happy, strangely enough… if it’s something that brings joy why ask why?  Do you “shop” your home too? All of these items in this vignette have been in our home for a very long time and are mostly vintage – shocking I know. 😉  Most of these things have also been in all of the rooms in our home(s), some even in the storage room. 😉 All things gathered from other rooms, storage shelves etc, you totally shop your home too, right?

Cozy Vintage Vignettes

Candles make everything cozy, don’t you think? AND, since spring is still on the fence regarding if it wants to show up or not we need all the cozy we can get!
