DIY – flowered Summer wreath – Seasonal Simplicity

DIYFloweredSummerWreath-Vinyet Etc

Hi Friends, welcome! Summer-time vibes are happing around these parts lately and I’m looking to pull the reins in a tiny bit, you know to slow these days down, just a touch! We are all a-buzz getting our whole porch ready for the season and today I’m sharing another little sneak peek with you – my flowered summer wreath!

Seasonal Simplicity

I am joining in with some of my creative friends for this, Seasonal Simplicity summer series, hosted by the lovely Krista, over at The Happy Housie! I couldn’t be more excited and cannot wait to see all of the beautiful wreaths!  You can check them out too, at the end of this post. 🙂

Seasonal simplicity, and I must say simplicity is completely in full swing here, so far this season I’ve shared how we’ve added succulents to our porch (with some planting tips), and our romantic getaway (hint – it’s our front porch) – all very simple things to get your summer prep well underway! 🙂

All the blooming flowers

I am so inspired this year by all of the beautiful blooming flowers, not to mention the intoxicating smells too, YUM! The peonies in my garden are on the verge of exploding (YAY) and so are the lilac bushes – I’m ready with my shears for some fresh clipped goodness for the house – stay tuned for some major flower graming over on Insta! Until then though… a pretty summer wreath with all the flowers spilling over, don’t mind if I do! There is just something so romantic and dreamy about all the spring flowers, right?

How-to

This is a very simple wreath to make, also you don’t have to cascade any of the flowers or greenery if that’s not your thing – I happen to love how it looks. 🙂 This is how I made this cascading flower wreath.

You will need:

  1. Large embroidery hoop & paint – I painted mine the softest pink (LOVE)!
  2. Floral & greenery picks of your choice (I got mine at Michael’s) – I chose two different flower types (in shades of pink and white) and a long trailing greenery.
  3. Glue gun.
  4. Jute.

This is how I put the wreath together:

  1. Start with your greenery – I wanted it to trail around half of the hoop (in a C shape) and spill it at the bottom.
  2. The hoop is pictured upside down (second image top left), but start your greenery at the hoop tightening screw section (no idea what the technical term is???)  – attach the greenery with glue and jute, if needed (I found I needed the jute to hold everything in place as the glue dried)
  3. Turn your hoop upright (the tightening screw should be at the top) and continue to add the greenery so that is cascades and drapes down in a C pattern.
  4. Once you are happy with the general look of your greenery start adding flowers – top down again.
  5. Alternate your flowers – as it looks pleasing to your eye, don’t worry because you will be filling in both, greenery and flowers once the wreath is installed. Bad blogger alert, I really need to take all the pictures all the way through… ooops!
  6. Start adding your flowers, top down again and trail them off as desired.
  7. Fill in all the spaces and keep alternating types of flowers.
  8. Stand back and fill in the blanks – where you see them.

Final touches:

  1. Install wreath where desired.
  2. I used two-way tape to fasten the long tail to the top of the mantel so that it would drape and cascade down.
  3. Start filling in any missing flowers as needed with a glue gun.
  4. I tied some jute onto the tail of the greenery so that it hangs over the mantel, I imagined this to be a rustic type of ribbon… not really needed, I just like the way it moves when there is a breeze. 🙂 Clear as mud? HA – if you have any questions, just let me know. xo
