This month I will be giving a little tour of our Farmhouse summer porch…

SummerPorchTour-FarmHouseFriends | Vin'yet Etc.

This summer I decided to simplify, if you know me you know that I LOVE to complicate things, so simplifying was a bit of work for me! Something is just wrong with that, I mean shouldn’t simplifying be easier for someone to do? One of these days I’ll get the hang of it… I just need to face it, I’m one of those people that likes, even needs to take the long way around the scenic route if you will.

**Note: if you don’t like peonies you should not join in on this tour, there may be an abundance of flower shots… don’t say you haven’t been warned! ;)**

We’ve been in this house now for 3 years… when I first saw this porch I was a bit overwhelmed! What the heck was I going to do with all of this space? Here is a before photo, this was on the realtors site.

And the right now…

We’ve done a few things since we moved here and I’m happy to say that we’ve made this porch welcoming, it’s definitely us with our eclectic collection of thrifted and rescued items, I didn’t need to be overwhelmed nor did I need to fill every nook and cranny with stuff! Next summer we are hoping to give this porch just a little face lift, give it more of a farmhouse vibe if you will. Stay tuned for that! πŸ™‚ If you’re curious, you can see some of our past tours here and here.

I must tell you the headboard bench is one of my favourite things on this porch, for our taste it’s just the perfect balance of rustic and pretty!

That little hummingbird pillow is so special, I found it at a little store one day and stopped in my tracks when I saw it… never mind that I have a “slight” pillow addiction, the reason I stopped in my tracks and had instant tears is because of that hummingbird. My Mom passed away in 2014 and everyday without her has been and continues to be a struggle, to say she was my best friend is a huge understatement. The hummingbird comes into the picture because that is the motif my brother and I decided on when laying her to rest. I promise this is not a morbid story… anyways when we were laying her beside Dad we were going to take the ceramic hummingbird and keep it, use it as a treasured keepsake if you will. Do you think we could get that bird off of that urn? That may not seem very funny, but we all started to laugh, I mean even the Priest tried to get that ceramic hummingbird, each of us thought of Mom and how she wasn’t giving us that little bird regardless of what we wanted, that was hers and she was keeping it. Through our tears we laughed, that gave us such comfort in such a sad time.Β  After that day hummingbirds have been surrounding my Brother and I, we are seeing them in the most unusual and surprising places, so much comfort and of course both of us think it’s Mom showing that she’s still looking out for us. When someone you love passes taking comfort and seeing “signs” and feeling them still with you is a wonderful way to continue on and cherish the memories. So here the little pillow sits, right in the spot that Mom liked to sit when she was here on our porch. <3

This little beauty came to visit one day too and I was lucky enough to capture her in mid-flight.

We love sitting on the porch, drinking our coffee in the early morning, looking out over the property, it’s so calm and private out here our little slice of peace and quiet in this crazy busy world. Relax…

RelaxOnThePorch-VinyetETC

Some people think we do way too many projects, that we’re always too busy DIYing, I know that some don’t get why we putter and are constantly working on something. I can share with you exactly why we do what we do… the sense of pride and accomplishment we have when we sit down to relax in or on something we’ve built and made together is extremely fulfilling. Both of us love creating, building and puttering. We actually just built this secret garden gate using an antique crib, you can see how we built that here.

We just love the way it turned out, so sweet!

Living in the here and the now on this porch is exactly how we like it, simply listening to nature and taking the time to sit and talk or just to listen to the sounds that surround us, appreciating this exact moment we are in… living simply and having gratitude.

There are down sides to hanging out surrounded by nature though… some addictions have developed! Some very serious addictions. You may have heard of it, the peony addiction?

PeonyObsession | VinyetETC

My tone is joking above, but I am VERY serious! These flowers they have taken over my thoughts! So gorgeous and fragrant! Actually the longer we live here the more flower and plant obsessed I am becoming, okay so not a horrible side effect of living in the country! πŸ˜‰
