Hello June! Well, it’s certainly been an interesting 2020 so far… to say the very least! It’s now June and we, (the Cozy Living Team) are back for another “episode” of cozy living! Yay! I will be sharing our pantry / laundry room make over. I am so relived that it’s done. When we moved in 7 years ago, it was one of the many things we wanted to change, we are loving the changes so far and I hope you will too!

Pantry – Laundry Room Before

Oh boy! This really reminds me of how it looked right after we moved in. Yikes! I remember being so excited having an actual pantry… oh the storage potential! Well the actual functionality and storage in the before was kind of horrible, we had to add a stand alone shelf and to be completely honest it was barely functional… and it was always messy! UGH

I find when everything is showing it looks very cluttered and chaotic.  And, really I am just not into the boarder and wall paper combo, this whole room was very dated.

So, for 7 years, we made minor changes here the there, very tiny things that enabled me to put things off for 7 years. haha We peeled most of the wall paper off (first thing) and bought an Ikea cabinet to put our pantry items inside… and then we waited (AKA procrastinated) for 6 more years. 😉

This is how it functioned for the first few months and let me tell you, this drove me bananas – every single day! haha

I am so happy with  the after…

Pantry – Laundry Room After

I am completely tickled with how this room looks and the function is more than we even hoped for… since we’ve been picking our way through this reno for the last 7 years, I am not going to share the step by steps… but I will be sharing an over all of what we did.

One of the very first changes we made was adding this antique door and some barn door hardware, we love the way this looks and the way it muffles the noise of  the washer and dryer. I simply love this little sneak peek into this room.

Do you guys remember this plate rack? When I built this I had no idea that it would become one of my favourite things about this room! I love that I can propagate my plant babies there too, the light in here is just perfect for that!

Our exterior pantry door goes to the back deck area, we NEVER use this door, but we didn’t want to remove it either… we could have removed it but we tried to keep the budget for this room down as much as we could.  So instead of removal we decided to use a frosted film on the window to defuse the light. I want to paint this door the same white as the wall colour that should help it blend right in and I will be replacing the brass hardware in a future mini project, excited for that.

The biggest improvement to this room is hands-down this “small” Ikea cabinet we hacked! This storage “built-in” is a beast and we LOVE how it keeps everything hidden and completely organized. We built the bottom open storage shelves and lifted the whole cabinet up, that added so much more function to this room. We also built the small cubby to the left of the pantry for the everyday grabs, LOVE this storage cubby so much. At the very end of the cabinet (beside the exterior door), we left that space open and added open shelves, a mini closet space tucked away, this is where our broom our mop and ugly cleaning supplies go. This whole wall works perfectly in our day to day and I’m just thrilled with it.  What do you think of this little make over that took 6 years? haha

Now please won’t you go see what my friends are up to for June’s cozy living.

Wow it’s amazing now! I did get a kick out of the wallpaper and boarder though. I remember those days with everyone was doing it, lol. Isn’t it nice to walk into a functioning space and feel relaxed? I bet you just walk in there, look, and giggle at how lovely it is.

Wow!! You outdid yourself with your laundry room makeover! That antique door is so gorgeous. I also love the plate rack and the way you added plants to it. And finally, that color blue on the cabinet is so dreamy! Perfection, Laurie!
