Play-date part 3: Bring nature into your home

This is the final installment of my visit to Tin Barn Market. I am sad! 🙁 But, I am also very happy that I was able to have this phenomenal opportunity! Thanks so much, Errin and Vicki, you have no idea how special this time was for me!  You two are not only creative mentors, you have a gift to see the world in such a positive and uplifting way. You make, this here girl, think she can do what she’s only dreamed of. Thank-you! <3

So ya, the bajilion photos I took, I  didn’t know how I was going to round up this adventure, how do I show you the essence and vibe of my dream store? It hit me one night while I was sleeping! Ya, I’m strange like that – nature – it’s everywhere in the shop, each photo I was editing was full of beautiful and simple natural elements. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? I’ve decided to show you photos of my Tin Barn adventure & how they bring nature into their decor. One of my all time favourite things  to do in my own home. Nature is full of patina, texture and warmth with so much colour and contrast, the true leader in originality. It’s so simple yet complex and can change the whole feeling of your space. Was that over the top? 🙂 I think you get how nature fascinates and influences me… now let me show you.

Stunning holly berries (Ilex verticillata cultivars)

I have been known to stop on the side of the highway to get that perfectly coloured twig, branch or even a whole tree (I do NOT recommend this practice).

I’d like to point out now that no trees were harmed in my quest for nature, I use already downed, broken and dead trees. 😉

If I do use live, I trim according to the guidelines to encourage growth. I kid you not! Mr Meticulous and I have dismantled barns,  SO much work, but the pay off is that amazing barn wood, not to mention the beams! I’ve slipped down rocks to get at some bright green moss, I scan the roads like you would not believe. You name it, I’ve gone to great lengths to lug that different piece of nature home with me. I can literately hear the eyes rolling on a road trip when I say, “pull over”! They know what I’m up to.

I have a bit of a barn obsession, (as shared on Instagram) I also have a whole pin board dedicated to it on Pinterest.  I love the patina, the grain and colour, the whole entire look… all of it!  That’s not obsessive, is it? What would you do with barn boards? While some of you have a ton of ideas, some of you may be stuck in the, “what do I do with this” zone.

The barn wood above, it’s used beautifully on the facade of Tin Barn. It adds texture, contrast and ties beautifully into their overall brand. I’ve used it as decor in so many different ways, too many to count, we’ve built furniture, hung it as art, used it as backing on cabinets… endless possibilities!

Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to climb around in the woods and get filthy dirty to have simple touches of nature in your home (although it’s a blast and I highly recommend it) they sell beautiful natural decor at your, “go to” home stores & even grocery stores, it really doesn’t matter where it comes from.

The grain and beauty in this vignette with the antique framed tin ceiling tile is very simple. Simple but full of texture, richness and natural beauty, not to mention that patina, swoon…

These magnolia branches are a new discovery for me, I am totally coveting these gorgeous limbs. I want magnolia trees ALL over my property!! Great, a new obsession. :p Their shape, the way the light throws shadows on the walls, simply put them into a container and you add so much personality to your vignette! Nature truly is my inspiration.

You can also layer different types of natural elements, varying the heights and textures, it really adds interest and movement to your vignette. Isn’t this Bunny awesome!?

Speaking of Bunnies… contrasting natural textures together along with pops of colour, that just ads impact! I love the white egg cups against the warm brown wood, with the round moss balls in the background contrasting both colour and texture off of the glass.  Play, play and play some more, don’t be afraid to use little hearts in an egg cup, or moss decorative globes in candle holders. If something catches your eye, texture and colour wise, put it in your home, chances are if you love it in nature, you will adore it in your home!

Pretty spring flowers help to soften this vignette.

As I stated earlier, Tin Barn is also heavily influenced by elements of nature, as you can clearly see when you enter their shop… the captivating touches of nature are beautifully lit with these stunning lights, adding drama to your space with lighting and combining it with nature, that’s a win win in my books.

Pussy willows are another simple way to add the character of nature to your space. Surround the stems with crinkled old newspaper put them in a treasured glass container, done and done!

Lovely aloe vera plant in a concrete planter, thank-you for brightening this spot.
