CreativeVintageDarlings - Thanksgiving wreath - Vinyet Etc

Hello friends, I’m very excited to be joining in with some of my vintage loving friends over at Creative Vintage Darlings. Yay! We hang out together online over at our Facebook group, please won’t you join us there if you’re into vintage that is! 😉  Today we will be sharing something vintage (of course) and something Thanksgiving – the perfect pairing in my opinion!  I am making a vintage thanksgiving wreath, no tablescapes here this year. Damn you pandemic that shall not be named! We aren’t hosting anyone this year, however I still wanted to bring a festive vibe into the house, as well as give some major thanks! Please won’t you stick around to the end of this post, my CVD friends will be sharing their vintage thanksgiving’s too!

Giving Thanks

This year Canadian Thanksgiving is on Monday, October 12th (literally right around the corner) and American Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 26th. As I’ve said above we aren’t hosting any family this year, but you can bet your cute tushy we are giving huge thanks! Before I get into my gratitude I have a mini confession though. This year I’ve had to dig very deep to find that gratitude. Man, I know this has been a crazy year for everyone,  I am totally sending out all the positive vibes to you and your loved ones. Some of the things we’ve been “managing” around here, to name of few. A bunch of crazy expensive home repairs (and NOT the fun kind) ALL of the things seem to be breaking at once! Some very special people in our lives are going through health concerns, life can be so very terrifying and fragile sometimes. Of course there has been no work outside of the home since March, that really adds a whole level of fun! <— Sarcasm. Seriously though, it’s so easy to grasp onto the bad of the situation(s), it’s a lot harder to look for the good in something, at least in my experience.  However,  I am working on digging deep lately to remind myself that this point in time shall pass, eventually.  This is 100% a challenging time for most of us, we are not alone! I am trying to turn my eyes and my thoughts to the good in my life and hang on to that instead of any negative happenings. The good in my life far out weighs the bad and I need to focus on that fact! I am so very grateful for my family, my health and my hubby, Bud! I am also forever grateful for the love I have know in this one lifetime. We adore where we live, we are surrounded by some family and they mean the whole world to us! I am so grateful for laughter, oh boy do we laugh, belly laughs every day and those moments sure help alleviate the stress. I am so very grateful for my friends, my IRL friends and my online creative buddies – Team CVD! They are my people and that connection is irreplaceable! That brings me to my creativity, I am so thankful for that, usually it takes my mind completely off of any stressors, built in therapy. Phew! 😉  And last but not least, I am thankful for you, if you are reading my heart, thank you for your support! xo

Now let’s move on to some of that creative therapy, let’s chat about vintage wreaths!

Vintage Wreaths

I love using different vintage pieces to make unique wreaths… This one time (not at band camp) I used an antique pitchfork, I really loved that wreath – see more of that cutie here

I’ve also used a small antique wheel to make a Christmas wreath… you can find the tutorial for that here.

And copper tubing  makes such an adorable Valentine wreath, don’t you think? If you want to see more of this wreath you can have a peek here.  As you can see, I like to use all the vintage goodies to make myself a wreath or two.

Making a Vintage Wreath

Before - CreativeVintageDarlings - Thanksgiving wreath - Vinyet Etc

This wreath was inspired by a rusty vintage and broken spoked wheel, I found this beauty while out thrifting. I instantly saw a wreath when I first spied it, can you see that too? I love the  fact that the spokes are asymmetrical, I knew that by adding some fall type foliage to the un-spoked side I’d have myself a unique Thanksgiving wreath, this hyperlapse video shows how I did it.

I love the way it turned out… I wanted to add more but I think it’s simplicity is imperfectly perfect and I’m happy with it just like it is.  This was such a fast wreath to make too (gotta love when projects are quick)… I’m loving the way the flowers are draping. I found those flower bunches at Michael’s for 40% off, I do love a deal. The muted green colours in the leaves and the feathers is my favourite colour palette for this year!

Warning… I may have taken waaaayyyy too many photos of this beautiful wreath!

    Band camp – I am rolling 😂
Laurie- I love this so much, you’re a flippin genius! Which I already knew, it’s just further proof. I’m thankful for you, my friend- and this crazy bond we have over vintage, snort laughing and just being plain old goofballs. ❤️

Love it! Pinned to my Wreath Ideas board:) I’m kinda geeking out over the leather belt hanger, though. Did you just cut a piece and then use a rivot gun? Ask Bud for me, please;) And that cupboard…everything’s going to look amazing on it and in it; seriously swooning. Keep your head up, friend…enjoy all the beauty around you, and that you can create! And I’m glad you took a bunch of pics; I love them!
