Family Treasures

This time of year I love to surround myself with family and with our family’s treasures, precious vintage that was passed down from generation to generation.  This year is no exception, while the family gathering is much smaller, just 4 of us (thank you 2020) we will still have our Christmas dinner and our Christmas table is set with those family treasures that mean so very much to us. Our vintage gold cutlery is from Bud’s (my Hub’s) family, his Mom gifted us his family’s gold silverware that adorns our table this year.  I decided to use that gold as a real design element this year.

Contrasting that beautiful gold cutlery against the black table cloth and adding some additional gold accessories really adds a special sparkle this holiday season. Our older gold jingle-bell napkin rings wrapped around the textured green cloth napkins with gold beaded edging is exactly what this tablescape needed.  I’ve laid them very casually on top of our vintage dinnerware and I’m really loving this layered and cozy look.

These simple gold wine glasses (some of my favourites) really help bring the whole setting together.

Vintage Oil Lanterns

A new obsession for me this year has been to buy up all of the interesting vintage oil lantern bases I come across. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with the plain bases without the lantern guts (that is the technical term – 😉 ) when I  bought my first one, but now I have so many ideas for them and I must tell you I LOVE them! They make the best vases, the best candle holders and they look amazing all lined up as is on a window sill as is.  I think they add the perfect vintage touch to this Christmas table.

I decided to add some black and white ribbon with magnolia leaves resting on pine boughs around the oil lantern bases, nice, simple and festive at the same time. That pine smells amazing and I just love all of the wonderful contrast happening off of the black table cloth.

Thank you so much for stopping in today, I hope my simple vintage Christmas table has sparked an idea or two. <3  I want to wish you all a VERY merry Christmas, I hope it’s filled with special moments and lots of love!

Your table is gorgeous, Laurie! The black tablecloth that you used really showcases your gold silverware and wine glasses with gold detail. I’m smitten over how you used antique lamp bases as candle holders. I’m going to try this idea for sure and now I have a reason to buy lamp bases when I see them for sale in antique shops. I so much enjoyed your post!

What a beautiful table, Laurie! The gold against the black with all the fresh greens is so soothing and elegant. What a treasure to have the gold silverware; wow! I love how you’ve repurposed the old oil lamps into candleholders. They also look amazing with fresh roses and peonies;) Always love seeing through your lens into your cozy home! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
